Grampians Peaks Trail, Bugiga Hiker Camp
We were commissioned by Parks Victoria to design a hiker camp in the Grampians National Park. The key concepts were to minimise environmental impacts
- provide a unique ‘on walk’ camp site showcasing the Mt Rosea area of the park, to reinforce the park’s significant natural and cultural heritage, to provide an experience which is ‘environmentally sustainable and involves best practice environmental and management standards’ and maintain a sense of remoteness for hikers. The design for the Wonderland Hiker Camp reduces the amount of equipment that the long distance walker has to carry by providing basic shelter, access to amenities, camp pads to reduce environmental impact. The design proposes a modular system of elements or ‘kit of parts’ which are utilised as a signature identity for the proposed camp site and potentially other long distance walk hiker campsites - it provides a shelter for hikers along with provision of 12 x 2 person camp sites which take advantage of spectacular views of Mt Rosea and Mt William.
