We inserted a perforated cement sheet layer into an existing shop to make a new retail space at street level. The perforated layer concealed existing services while still allowing them to operate. At the same time it provided a acoustic softening which we thought was appropriate for the kind of product on display. Two ‘secret’ doors lead out of the retail space to separate stairs – one flight down to treatment rooms and the other up to offices. The retail space has no shelving – product is displayed on a central table or in drawers within the table. The lack of ‘on display’ product works in harmony with the parsimonious nature of the design each enhancing the other.
